Activated charcoal is a fine black powder made from bone char, coconut shells. The charcoal is activated by processing it at very high temperatures. The high temperatures change its internal structure, reducing the size of its pores and increasing its surface area
Activated charcoal’s negatively charged, porous texture helps trap toxins, oils & bad odors.
Activated charcoal–when used in a face mask–binds to dirt and helps pull it out of your pores, making them less visible (it’s the oil and dirt that makes them appear bigger). This leaves your face feeling fresh. (Use it with an exfoliating scrub to get the dead skin off and experience an even deeper clean.)
There is some suggestion it also can whiten teeth. This powder is fine enough grit (European standard) to use as a toothpaste.
Activated charcoal shouldn’t be confused with charcoal briquettes that are used to light your barbecue.
